Were you wondering? Auditorium coming down

August 10, 2011

AAJA convention-goers who walk along the waterfront between the Renaissance Center and Cobo Center will likely spot the demolition of the Ford Auditorium.
The auditorium has been abandoned for more than 15 years. Demolition began in early July. Plans for the empty location include a new amphitheatre, city officials said.

Convention swag: Cool sacks

August 10, 2011
This year’s convention is in the bag.

The tote bags of recent years are out. Compact satchels are in.

“They’re keepers,” said Annabelle Udo-O’Malley, AAJA’s events and fundraising coordinator.

Convention goers also may notice the bags’ apt size for iPads, which wasn’t even in mind when the bags were chosen, Udo-O’Malley said.

Kid Rock ready to rock Detroit

Kid Rock is putting Detroit on blast.

The star’s “Born Free” tour will hit Comerica Park in Detroit on Friday and Saturday. Sammy Hagar and The Wabos will join the rocker both nights, according to kidrock.com, where tickets are almost sold out.

“Born Free” was Rock’s eighth studio album.

“The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit,” Rock says on his website. “Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul.”
